Karachi constituencies to be delimited as per SC order: ECP

Islamabad: Election Commission of Pakistan’s Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan has said that verification of electoral rolls in Karachi will be conducted with the help of Pakistan Army.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad in Thursday, the secretary said that the ECP had directed its provincial offices to contact core headquarters anddefence ministry within two for the provision of security in Karachi, adding that there were 6.8 million voters registered in Karachi.
He said that electoral rolls in Karachi would be verified with the help of the army and the process will take one month. He added that the verification of voter lists would take 65 days and 18000 employees would be hired for the process.
“The constituencies in Karachi will be delimited as per the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s order,” Khan said. To a query regarding law and order situation, the secretary said that the ECP will hold a meeting with provincial and federal government on January 2 to discuss the law and order situation.
