Pakistan has a long history of corruption: Chairman NAB

ISLAMABAD: While speaking to media representatives at a press conference in Islamabad, the Chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Admiral (retd) Fasih Bokhari said that corruption was a longstanding issue of Pakistan and that even Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah had talked of its elimination.

Bokhari reiterated his claim that corruption was taking place at a large scale in Pakistan, adding that the corruption was a global menace and that international anti-corruption agencies were making efforts to eradicate it. The NAB chairman further said that it was imperative to amend the system in order to stamp out corruption.
Moreover, he claimed that only two out of three pillars of the state remained now as corruption had weakened Pakistan’s roots. There was widespread corruption in every sector, he added. He told the media representatives that records of mismanagement in matters such as forests and tree-cutting had been collected.
During the press conference, Bokhari lauded the role played by media in eradicating corruption and declared the Pakistani media as NAB’s partner. He also said that 59 laws were passed to tackle corruption since Pakistan came into being.
