SC registrar bound to appear before PAC: Attorney General

Islamabad: Attorney General Irfan Qadir say the registrar of Supreme Court of Pakistan is bound to appear before Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Talking to media, Qadir views the registrar should appear before the committee as it only audits accounts not judges conduct. “Accounts of the apex court should be transparent and without any doubt and it does not violate independence of the judiciary,” he added.
He also stated that PAC has responsibility to check the apex court accounts whether it is transparent or not, neither the working of judges. “In past, Registrars of SC reported to the same committee, so SC shouldn’t see this step as an attack on judiciary.” Earlier, registrar of SC had rejected to appear before PAC saying that PAC have no constitutional authority to scan the accounts of apex court and can only check national accounts.
