MQM to file response over SC contempt notice after consultations: Altaf Hussain

Karachi: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Friday said that the party's response in the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) contempt notice would be according to the law and the constitution.

Speaking to party workers in Karachi, Hussain said that they would not lodge a protest against the apex court’s directives on the issue.
Altaf Hussain said that the party would file a response in the apex court after consulting legal and constitutional experts.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday issued contempt notice to Altaf Hussain, the chief of Muttahida QaumiMovement, over his remarks against the judiciary during rally in Karachi.
The court said that the word, used by Hussain in his speech, were contemptuous.
MQM Chief Altaf Hussain and the deputy convener of the party’s Rabita Committee Dr Farooq Sattar, who is also a Member of National Assembly (MNA), were summoned by the court on Jan 7.
Meanwhile, commenting on murder investigation of Dr Imran Farooq by Scotland Yard police, he said the party would extend every support to help expedite the probe.
He said the probing agency had informed them before visiting the MQM office in Edgware.
Moreover, the party chief demanded the Supreme Court to take notice of Ali Garh and Pakka Qila tragedies. “We are ready to hand over evidence to the court in this regard also,” he added.
Efforts were being made to remove MQM from the country’s political scene for the last 35 years, he said. “People have witnessed what happened to those who hurled allegations at Altaf Hussain and his party…and the world will witness it in the future also,” said the MQM chief.
